Sometimes, we don’t get the articles done the way we hope . . . so the day after we had a snappy pic of London rock band Moondog Uproar in Ticket, here is the Q&A to go with it, including left to right IDs if you want to match them up with the photo. I don’t know a lot about Moondog Uproar, but I’ve been enjoyed their album Sunrise . . . and as you read Mike’s answers in the Q&A, I think you’ll figure out why Sunrise is so much fun to listen to . . .

Q: I think it’s fair to say you’re still finding your way to your own unique sound . . . Which is another way of saying you have a lot of cool influences & know how to use them  . . . Are you aware how rare it is to have a band which knows about the Guess Who (who were in the Top 10 when I was about your age) and the Arctic Monkeys (admired by our daughter)? Are there are any London bands who fit in the same area as Moondog

A:Mike- Thank you.  Yes it is a rare occurrence to find a band that gathers influences from different generations of music.  That comes from growing up with a house that plays music 24/7, more specifically  the beatles , guess who etc…
Instead of waking up to my mom vacuuming on a sunday morning ,  it was my dad having revolution cranked at 8 am.
Thats what gives me the respect and love for classic rock.

to add , Bands like oasis take there influences from the beatles ,  arctic monkeys take there’s from oasis , So we decided not to have any limitations to our sound and have the best of both worlds.

There are many great artists in london, specifically if you are looking to see great band play you can check out The Joys , and Helix or and acoustic duo Rusty water.

Aaron – his father having an acoustic guitar around playing ccr , and cat stevens.

Matt-  always has had a lot of diversity in his love of music , he has always been a fan of all genres of music.

Q: How did you setting on the Moondog Uproar name . . . It’s a good one . . .

A:  My dad suggested Moondog to me . John lennon’s first band was called Johnny and the Moondogs’ ,also  moondog meaning a ” star studded phenomenon in the sky”  it sounded right to what we are as a band and our history of the love of music.
Aaron later suggested adding the Uproar to add energy to our name.

Q: Any high schools in your past? Any other bands that the three of you have played in?

A:  Mike and Aaron went to St. Joseph’s High school in St. Thomas , and have been long time childhood friends. Matt went to Regina Mundi College in London. Mike later met Matt Varey in a previous band together.
The two of them ( matt and mike ) knew they had special chemistry together, and decided to further their musical careers and started the band Moondog Uproar.  Later came Aaron to join.

Q: Do you have a 25-word or so description for the band’s sound?

A: We have all been in and out of a few bands , but nothing that compares to the chemistry of the Uproar.

A: Moondog Uproar , a fun , fresh , energetic rock n roll trio with a big sound.  Catchy pop songs that keep you singing in the shower but with enough edge you’ll want to crank it down the highway.  Moondog Uproar is here to stay.

A: Live show -  you can expect a dance party! ,, fun with lots of energy!

Goderich, Ontario – Matthew Good has been added to the line-up of the Out of the Storm fundraising event in Goderich on October 8. He’ll be playing alongside well-known Canadian bands the Arkells, Downchild, Serena Ryder, The Salads, Maestro Fresh Wes and others.

It has been a busy few weeks for the Out of the Storm volunteer committee, who started planning for the event a short 3 weeks ago. The members are really excited about the daylong event. “Things are really starting to come together,” says Matt Hoy, chair of the Out of the Storm committee. “Everyone is working together to create an amazing day, we couldn’t have asked for a better line-up.”

The musical entertainment will kick off at noon with Serena Ryder taking the stage at 2:00 PM, followed by Maestro Fresh Wes at 3:15 PM. Downchild is set to play at 7:30 PM and The Salads with Choclair will perform later in the evening.

Matthew Good will be headlining the event with the Arkells. Artists including Celtic duo Taheay and Stacey, Moondog Uproar, Rick Taylor, Dylan Wickens, and Breaching Vista will also perform. Local bands selected from submitted entries (bands chosen on September 30) will play throughout the day.

In addition to a great day of music, many other festivities will be happening on The Square.

A large beverage tent, silent auction, food vendors, retail vendors, local artists, tornado information booths and a children’s area are some of the great activities that people will be able to take part in. “This event is for the whole family,” says Hoy. “Attendees will be able to come and go as they please and spend time trying out new activities.”

Susan Armstrong, Goderich BIA Manager, noted that some of the Goderich businesses that were displaced or unable to re-open due to damage will be showcased at the event. “Out of the Storm is a great opportunity to visit the few businesses in the area that have re-opened since the storm,” says Armstrong.

Local artists will be showcased at the event including a photo tent that will display photos of Goderich, both before and after the devastating tornado. Anyone that wants to share their favourite photos of Goderich is asked to submit photos to ootsphototent@gmail.com.

Out of the Storm is a fundraising event to help rebuild, restore and reclaim the Town of Goderich and create awareness about the community, while providing people with a terrific event to look forward to and to remember.

Tickets for the event are just $45.00 and children under 12 accompanied by an adult are free. Tickets are available at www.ticketscene.ca or at BMO Bank of Montreal locations across Southwestern Ontario.

Ray Cammaert and his Toronto band Pink Moth play the London Music Club Saturday night. The ex- Londoner grew up in Old South.

Ready for an uproar? Step inside Norma Jean’s tomorrow night for a high-energy show from trio Moondog Uproar.

And what makes this band so loud and likable? It’s the combined efforts of Michael Lavereau (vocals, piano, guitar), Aaron Ambrose (bass) and Matt Varey (drums). Since forming in the summer of last year, Moondog Uproar has created quite a few unforgettable tracks, and has already released a full-length, 12-track album called Sunrise.

With danceable tunes like Set If Off and Know Your Name (“You tell me your secrets / I want to know your name”), these London-based boys have received quite the positive response from locals and critics alike. And while they’ve only played in London and the surrounding areas, they’re hoping to soon take their sound across Canada (to start), not unlike the bands that have inspired them — including The Tragically Hip, Sloan, The Guess Who and Neil Young.

Moondog Uproar takes the stage tomorrow night at Norma Jean’s. This 19+ show will also include performances from Dirty Love Band, Persist and Surreal. The music starts at 10 p.m.
